About Brooks Brothers:
Brooks Brothers is an American Classic. In 1818 Henry Sands Brooks founded Brooks Brothers, the first ready-to-wear fashion emporium in America. Since then we are proud to have become an institution that has shaped the American Style of Dress through fashion innovation, fine quality, personal service, and exceptional value in our products. The Golden Fleece symbol has been Brooks' "logo" since the middle of the 19th century. While no direct evidence addresses why the company chose this symbol, the most likely explanation is Brooks' close association with European finery and the woolen trade. On January 10, 1430, Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy married Princess Isabella of Portugal. He presented 31 Knights to his new Bride. Each Knight displayed the Lamb of God suspended above their hearts. This symbolized at once both gentle humility and the woolen fabrics to which so much of Burgundian wealth was owed. Since the days of chivalry, a ram or lamb, suspended by a ribbon, has often been the symbol of the woolen trades. The Knights of the Golden Fleece were among the best dressed and most colorful in Europe. Brooks Brothers likely used the icon to symbolize quality and integrity as well as the European sartorial tradition upon which the company based its early identity. Brooks Brothers is considered an iconic brand. We have dressed generals, presidents, actors, actresses and those who seek and appreciate quality and value.
